IMMERSION POOL AND BATHHOUSE

Design Processes II

The semester began with a textural study on the grounds of Concordia Seminary. The dehydration of berries I found on the site formed divets and peaks in the skin, creating a formal order that I would study throughout the semester. The berries’ texture was translated into a container that would be 3D printed.

A section of the park served as the site for an immersion pool and accompanying bathhouse. I lifted and widened the wrinkles from the berries to create a tunnel-like space. The dehydrated portion of the building that houses the immersion pool contrasts with the wrinkled changing rooms that branch off of it. The three-dimensional output of the immersion pool, bathhouse and surrounding site context tested my model-making skills.
